Stock Transfers

How Stock Transfers Work

West Coast Stock Transfer receives instructions from our Issuer clients to initiate transfers on their Shareholder’s behalfs. After buy and sell orders from Broker/Dealers are executed, transfer agents cancel the original certificate(s) and replace the registered owner on the stock with the new buyer. Our clients already have the necessary documents on file granting them ‘Stock Power’, the right to transfer ownership of their customer’s stocks to other another party. As Broker/Dealers buy and sell stock each day, transfer agents cancel and reassign ownership of those stocks while overseeing and recording each step along the way. Each transfer is subject to regulations and logged according to SEC and FINRA regulations. Certain securities are bound by special safeguards and are known as ‘Restricted Stock’.
